Tagakaulo


Tagakaulo are one of the tribe inhabit in Mindanao. TAGA- means place ,KA- refers to people, ULO- means top, and it means that they are the people living in the top of mountain or in the sources of the river.

They inhabited the province of Davao Del Sur and Sarangani Province particularly in Malalag, Lais, Sta. Maria Malita Davao del Sur, Talaguton Rivers Mount Apo and Malungon. The Tagakaulo tribe is originally come from western shores of the gulf of Davao and South of Mt. Apo.

Tagakaulo Beliefs

Tagakaulo believe in God our Almighty Father, they called Him “TYUMANEM”, they believe TYUMANEM as the highest and the creator of everything on earth. Tagakaulo worships TYUMANEM in every celebration they have in their tribe.

Related Tribe
Kalagan (Calagan, Kagan, Karagan) are Tagakaulo who have converted to Islam, either through intermarriage or contact with the Maguindanao. Islamization is a relatively recent development among the Tagakaolo and many older Kalagan still retain traditional beliefs. Kalagan speak Tagakaulo, a subgroup of the Central Philippine Language Group. Some Kalagan are swidden agriculturalists, while others are involved in wage labor. Maize is the major crop, and is harvested two or three times a year. Coastal Kalagan are also fishermen, and some work as plantation laborers. There are aproximately 8,000 Kalagan living on the island of Mindanao in the Philippines. They are located in the area between the interior uplands and the western coast of the Davao Gulf.
